1. Program provided in our county schools for gifted students. Most students range from grades 3-6. 2. Maintains contact with legislators at state and national level to promote legislation for improvement and expansion of services for gifted children. 3. Provides workshops on various topics concerning exceptional children. 4. Conducts academic bowls and leagues. 5. Organizes and conducts Allen County Spelling Bee. 6. Assists area schools with the identification of gifted students. 7. Coordinates a Women in Science day for the 7th and 8th grade girls every other year in conjunction witth the SESA program. 8. Offers a summer professional course for college credits for teachers as needed.

The Health Department has several divisions that offer a variety of services. Vital Statistics records and issues birth and death records. The Maternal/Child Health programs provide Pregnancy testing and Medicaid application assistance for pregnant women. Health Department nurses coordinate Allen County's Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH). Pregnancy testing is available on Wednesdays and Fridays 8-9am and through the Family Planning Program (419-228-6154). Nurses also oversee Communicable Disease Control which includes general communicable disease and sexually transmitted diseases (STD). An STD clinic is available on Tuesdays 4:00-5:00pm. Tuberculosis (T.B.) testing is available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday, 8-9am and 3-4pm. Immunization Clinics for children are held every Wednesday, 1:30-3:30pm, Thursday 8:30-10:30am, with satellite locations at various times/locations around the county*. Nutritional counseling and supplemental foods are provided through the WIC Program (419-224-8200). Public health education is provided in the areas of AIDS, heart disease, nutrition, physical activity, and the health ministries program. HIV/AIDS testing is available by appointment. The Environmental Health Division regulates restaurants and swimming pools, provides sewage and plumbing inspections & issues well permits. The Environmental Division also provides follow-up for animal bites and public health complaints. Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening provided through Women's Preventive Healthcare Project, and community agencies. They also provide physician and community education. We do one time referrals with law enforcements, schools and their parents. We also offer 3 tours after a special referral is completed. These are held monthly. We now offer a Juvenile Fire Setting program in collaboration with our local fire departments.

Diversion Department--provides diversion services and counseling for unruly and some delinquent youth (e.g., truants, runaways) and their parents designed to eliminate the need for formal court intervention. Probation Department--official supervision of adjudicated unruly and delinquent offenders within the community, Detention Center--provides temporary secure care for children pending court adjudication or disposition, Treatment Center--provides treatment, individual, family, group, and mental health counseling, and educational services for children in a secure setting after a court adjudication of delinquency, Day Treatment Program provides treatment, counseling and educational services to children in a non-secure setting after court adjudication, Restitution Program-provides a work-based program to permit adjudicated youth an opportunity to pay their court-ordered victim restitution, Community Services Program-provides a work-based program to permit adjudicated youth an opportunity to give service to their community as a form of rehabilitation.
